The Basics: Using IT and email

An introduction to some of the basics of using the library and computing facilities at the University of Huddersfield

Finding computers in the Library

Finding a PC in the Library

There are over 500 computers in the Library.

We have two computer rooms open 24 hours a day throughout the year on floor 4 of the Schwann Building. You can find it up the steps or ramp opposite the main library entrance.

Borrow a library laptop
You may borrow laptop computers for up to 48 hrs, as well as a range of other equipment such as cameras and digital voice recorders. Laptop lockers are located next to the main library entrance.

WiFi access

If you have access to a portable device, such as a laptop or smartphone, you can access free WiFi across campus, select ‘Uni-WiFi’ on your device and login using your username and password.

Printing and photocopying

You can print your work on any of the printers in the Library, using your campus card. Choose from A4 or A3, colour or black and white.

You can print from your own device using the Mobile Print service  (pick up from the Library or 24hr computer suite).

Add print credits to your account by paying online

Email (Unimail)

Your University email address will be based on your username, in the form and can be accessed via the Student Hub.

UniMail also gives you access to Office365, which includes the option to download Word, Excel, PowerPoint to your own device.

Personal Storage Area (K drive)

All students have a minimum of 2GB personal storage through their ‘K’ drive which can be accessed off campus via the Student Hub or UniDesktop.
