Dawsonera is one of the main ebook platforms for ebooks at the University of Huddersfield. Dawsonera has ebooks covering a wide range of subjects. This guide explains how to find and use ebooks available on Dawsonera, and answers frequently asked questions.
You can read all Dawsonera ebooks online. Click the read online button on any ebook to read without downloading.
Some ebooks have restrictions on how many people can access the book at one time. When the user limit is reached, the option to join the queue will replace the read online and download options. This will reserve the book for you, and you will be notified by email when the book is available to read.
Reading ebooks online only requires an internet connection and up to date browser. You shouldn't need to install anything to read online.
You can download entire books for a specified time period. Dawsonera will ask you to choose how long to download your book for.
Select your preferred loan length from the drop down menu and click download. After your loan expires you will not be able to access the book on a device without downloading it again.
Dawsonera ebooks are delivered as secure PDF files or in the EPUB format so you can't save or copy from them in the same way as a standard PDF. You will need to install specific software or apps to read the ebook depending on which device you are using and whether the book is in the PDF or EPUB format.
Usually up to 10% of a title from the read online version. Once you have copied content from a page you can make further copies of that page without affecting your remaining allowance.

Dawsonera has a bookshelf feature. You can use this to save books to return to another time. To save ebooks to your bookshelf click the star icon on the ebook details page.
You can't bookmark specific chapters or pages in Dawsonera.
Notes can be added to an ebook when using the online reader. It is not possible to add notes or annotate a downloaded ebook.
When accessing Dawson ebooks from off-campus, we recommend that you locate the ebooks you are interested in by using Summon or your Reading Lists.
