Library Services for Studying Online: Finding information & ebooks

Introduction

Summon is the best place to start your search for relevant online information sources, as it links to many of our electronic resources, including ebooks and electronic journal articles.

You can find Summon by clicking on "Library and Summon" tab in My Hud, or by entering the following address into your browser https://library.hud.ac.uk

Below are some video tutorials to get you started.

Can't find what you are looking for in Summon? You can find specialist subject resources on your library subject pages. Click on the link to library subject pages to find your subject page which will have a list of other recommended resources, including some which are not available through Summon. You might also want to look at our full list of electronic resources or have a look at the temporary electronic resources that publishers are offering free access to during this period.

Finding electronic sources on Summon

Search Summon with keywords or item titles to access thousands of ebooks and electronic journal articles.

You can filter Summon search results to show only electronic sources. On the results page, click on the 'Full Text Online' filter on the grey options bar on the left-hand side.

The video tutorial below gives an introduction to using Summon.

Finding electronic journal articles

The majority of our journals are available to read online.
To learn more about how to find these, see our library guide to journals.

Finding ebooks

Ebooks are a really useful resource for online study.

For more information on how to use ebooks effectively, see our library guide to ebooks or watch the video below.

You can filter your results page in Summon to show ebooks only by clicking on the 'Full Text Online' and 'Book/eBook' filters on the grey options bar on the left-hand side.

If a book you need is not available on Summon as an ebook, please email library@hud.ac.uk with details and we will help you find alternative sources you can use.

Please note that not all print books are available as ebooks which libraries can purchase for lending. Our priority has always been to provide all your reading list books as ebooks wherever possible, but unfortunately these are sometimes not available to us.
