Circulating a digital copy that has been scanned from a printed copyright work is equivalent to handing out multiple photocopies in a coursepack and both would come under the terms of the University's Copyright Licensing Agency Licence. However, if a reference to the extract e.g. a chapter from a book, a single graphic or image from a book or an article from a journal issue, is added to Leganto, Library staff will digitise the extract and ensure that it complies fully with the terms of the Licence. See our Leganto reading lists guide for support on adding material or contact library@hud.ac.uk
NB Where the extract is in an e-book or e-journal Library staff will link the reference in Leganto to the full text in the electronic copy. That way usage can be monitored and can be taken into account when the subscription to the electronic copy is up for renewal.
Making scanned extracts from printed books and journals available to students comes under the terms of our CLA License. These terms include the following:
However, when scanned extracts are made available via Leganto, library staff will ensure that all the above are complied with.
