Quick start guides

You can access your reading lists on Leganto by following the Reading List link from each of your modules in Brightspace.

This video provides an overview of getting started with Leganto, focussing on the five main steps for academics to cover during the summer of 2022:

What is Leganto?

Leganto is the new reading list system used at the University of Huddersfield.  This guide provides training and support materials to help academic staff create reading lists.

Benefits of using Leganto

Using Leganto for reading lists is university policy however there are many more reasons than that to use it:

  • Research conducted by the library has highlighted that students find reading lists beneficial to their studies.  Leganto provides a direct link to online resources such as books, journals articles and websites making it easier for students to navigate through their reading lists.
  • Reading lists are for more than just books, don’t forget you can add links to specialist databases and resources. Leganto makes it easy to compile a reading list for your modules with just a few clicks as you can import items directly from Summon.
  • Reading lists are easy to set up and maintain, and you can keep track of them all in one place instead of updating copies of your list in multiple places.
  • Using Leganto means the library know what resources students are expected to read, and we can provide better access to the required materials. The library buys books based on what is added to Leganto and will create digital extracts which are added to reading lists.
  • Leganto takes care of copyright for you with digital extracts. You won’t fall foul of copyright rule and regulations. Add book chapters to your list and the library will scan them and upload to Leganto.
