You only need a library card for the University of Huddersfield if you're planning on coming to Huddersfield and visiting the library, you don't need it to access any other university services or resources from a distance.
However, if you're close enough to want to visit the university library, you can email us at library@hud.ac.uk and we will prepare your card for you. Then you'll have to come and pick it up from the University library; please see the campus map so you know where to find us!
Brightspace is the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE) which provides access to module information, course content, and discussion forums supporting your studies. When you log in you will see a home page for your school that contains important information. There will also be areas for each module that you are enrolled on.
Your parent institution may use its own VLE and utilise Brightspace rarely, or not at all. The Huddersfield staff are here to support you though if you do use it!
Brightspace Pulse: this is a free app you can use on your mobile device to keep up-to-date with the latest announcements from your modules. Search for 'Brightspace pulse' on your app store.
It's quite common for our students at partner organisations to forget their uni passwords, if you follow our guidance here then you'll be ok if this happens to you!
Please register for our online password reset service. By setting up some security details, you will be able to change your password online at any time wherever you are. Don't get locked out, lock in your security details now!
If you have forgotten your password and haven't already registered with the password reset system, please email it.support@hud.ac.uk for assistance. You can also call our IT support team on (01484) 473737.
You will use the same username and password for logging on to all University systems, e.g. email, Library Search, Brightspace, My Hud, HudHelp, etc.
Your username is the letter u followed by seven numbers; this will have been provided to you via email or letter from the university - your tutor should be able to help if you can't find it.
e.g. u1234567
Your default password will be based on your date of birth in the format ddmmmyy, e.g. 23feb95. You will be prompted to change this when you log in for the first time.
Accessing your resources via your reading lists can be really useful. Your tutors will have specially chosen books, ebooks, journals and websites that will be useful to your module, and your reading list allows you to access them faster as opposed to searching the library yourself. There are direct links from your list to Library Search for electronic resources, so a few clicks will bring you to the reading quickly and easily.
Often your tutors will have organised your lists as well into useful sections, such as reading for a certain week or seminar, or highlighted the most important reading for a module. Accessing your reading lists lets you see this information, and identify the most relevant resources.
