Music Technology (Department of Music): Searching for Sound Recordings

A guide to support the study of music technology in the Music Department

Searching for CDs on the Music Library shelves

1. Use the basic screen to search for the CD or sound recording of a composition or song on a CD.

2. You can use the composer, artist/band or title of the work/song to perform your search.

3. Once you have performed a search you will see a list of results.

4. Go to the refining tools on the left hand side and select 'audio' from the Content Type section.

5. You can refine the list further to see only CDs that we have on the Music Library shelves or to stream online by selecting 'physical items in the library' or 'available online' respectively. You can also check if the CDs in the Music Library are out on loan or not.

6. If the CD you want is on loan you can reserve it by clicking on the title, then Get It, then follow the instructions on screen. Once the CD has been returned to the library you will receive an email asking you to collect it from floor 4. You should follow the instructions in the email. If you have a query about the requesting service please ask at the Help Desk on floor 4.
