Music Technology (Department of Music): Searching for Sound Recordings

A guide to support the study of music technology in the Music Department

Searching for CDs on the Music Library shelves

1. Use the basic or advanced search screens to search for the CD or sound recording of a composition or song on a CD.

2. You can use the composer, artist/band or title of the work/song to perform your search.

3. Once you have performed a search you will see a list of results.

4. Go to the refining tools on the left hand side and select audio recording from the Content Type section.

5. The results list will now only show the physical CDs on the shelves in the music library and whether the CD is on the shelves and available to be borrowed (available) or whether it is already on loan (unavailable).

6. If the CD you want is on loan you can reserve it by clicking on the title, then Get It, then follow the instructions on screen. Once the CD has been returned to the library you will receive an email asking you to collect it from floor 4. You should follow the instructions in the email. If you have a query about the requesting service please ask at the Help Desk on floor 4.
