Introduction to key resources

This section introduces a wealth of multi-disciplinary resources that may be useful to you in your research journey.

We recommend you start with the subject guide that best matches the discipline, department or school in which you and your supervisor reside. This may be more than one subject - they have been compiled to support the taught courses.

We have gathered together the generic resources that could be useful to any postgraduate researcher in this section too, so dip into these and remember to ask your supervisor and other PhD students what they would recommend too!

A multi-disciplinary abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature from more than 18,500 journals. Provides ability to search backwards, sideways and forwards from a specific paper.
If you are having trouble accessing Scopus or other Elsevier products such as SciVal or Knovel please try the following:
1. Use Incognito or Preview mode in a browser
2. Try another browser
3. Clear cache and cookies:

Google Scholar
A broadly search for scholarly literature, across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Edit your settings so it recognises you are a member of the University of Huddersfield Library.

This service enables all staff and students to select, view and record streaming radio and television programmes broadcast from over 60 Freeview channels.

Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video service with over 30000 documentaries, classic and independent films.

See shorts and features, showing the best from the British Film Institute (BFI), national and regional archives - including 120 years of Britain on film. Linked to free content, but there are rental and subscription options available at a cost.

Digimap delivers Ordnance Survey maps and geospatial data, available either via download facilities for use with appropriate application software such as GIS or CAD, or as maps generated by Digimap online. The mapping tool (Roam) allows users to view and print maps of any location in Great Britain at a series of predefined scales as well as enabling the user to specify a map scale, area and content.
