Library Services for Studying Online: Finding information & ebooks

Introduction

Library Search is the best place to start your search for online information sources, as it links to most of our electronic resources, including ebooks and electronic journal articles.

You can access Library Search by clicking on "Library" tab in My Hud, or by entering the following address into your browser https://library.hud.ac.uk

Below are some video tutorials to get you started.

Can't find what you are looking for in Library Search? Click on the link to Library Subject Guides to find the guide for your subject area. This lists the recommended specialist resources for your subject, including some which are not available through Library Search. Alternatively, if you know the name of the resource that you want, you can also find it through our full alphabetical list of electronic resources.

Finding electronic sources on Library Search

Search by item titles or keywords in Library Search to access thousands of ebooks and electronic journal articles.

You can filter Library Search results to show only electronic sources. On the results page, click on the 'Available online' filter on the grey options bar on the left-hand side.

The video tutorial below gives an introduction to using Library Search.

Finding electronic journal articles

The majority of our journals are available to read online.
To learn more about how to find these, see our library guide to journals.

Finding ebooks

Ebooks are a really useful resource for online study.

Your module reading list on Brightspace will recommend books for your course, and link through to Library Search to find these.

You can also search for ebooks yourself by title or keyword in Library Search. Limit your results page to ebooks only by clicking on the 'Available online' and 'Books' filters on the grey options bar on the left-hand side (as shown in the video below).

If a book you need is not available as an ebook on Library Search, please email library@hud.ac.uk with details and we will help you find alternative sources you can use.

Please note that not all print books are available as ebooks which libraries can purchase for lending. Our priority has always been to provide all your reading list books as ebooks wherever possible, but unfortunately these are sometimes not available to us.

For more information on how to use ebooks effectively, see our library guide to ebooks.
