The BMJ open access agreement covers the publishing fees in any of the participating journals from BMJ’s Standard Collection for corresponding authors affiliated to the University of Huddersfield who publish original articles based on primary research funded by UK Research and Innovation, British Heart Foundation, Blood Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK, Parkinsons UK, Versus Arthritis or the Wellcome Trust.
To be eligible under this agreement articles must have an acceptance date between 1.1.2023 - 31.12.2024 and meet the following Author, Journal, Funder and Article type criteria.
To be eligible, individuals must have an affiliation with the University of Huddersfield. This includes students who are enrolled at or accredited to the institution, as well as teaching and research staff who are employed by or otherwise accredited to the University. In the case of articles with multiple authors, only the corresponding author can qualify as an Affiliated Author.
The corresponding author must be responsible for managing the publication process of an article, from submission to post-acceptance, and must be the one who corresponds with the Publisher.
Authors must use their University of Huddersfield email address and ensure they select the correct affiliation from the drop-down search during the submission process.
Please note: papers with corresponding authors who are honorary, visiting or NHS members of staff without a contract of employment will not normally be eligible to use this agreement.

The eligible article must be published in one of the following hybrid journals.
Fully gold open access journals are not included in this agreement.
If you're unsure on the eligibility of a title please contact the Open Access Team.
Only original research articles (original articles reporting on primary research) are eligible.
CC BY only. Please contact oa@hud.ac.uk with any licence questions.
For authors outside of this Jisc agreement, where funding is not available to make a funded VOR available on a CC-BY licence, BMJ will strive to find a way to make open access possible. This might be via a waiver of the APC charge or gold OA, or via the green route (as per the Rights Retention Strategy) but BMJ will need to consider each article on a case by case basis depending on the author, the journal, and the institution. We ask authors to make a request upon submission.
